Zoe Boekbinder was born sometime, someplace, and there are some interesting things to say about her. Zoe is a speakeasy lounge singer performing at Fraggle Rock. She is “geek-glam”, music for people who wear sequins to the library.

In 2005, Zoe formed a band called Vermillion Lies with her sister, Kim Boekbinder. This twisted folk cabaret duo traveled the world charming audiences with their comedic songs. They headlined venues like The Great American Music Hall (SF) and Circo de Braga (Portugal) and played with bands like The Dresden Dolls and The Ditty Bops. Being fiercely dedicated to music, Zoe began releasing her more personal material under her own name. In 2007, she released a seven song EP and toured the nation. Since then Zoe has been molding her style and is now ready to take over the world, with guitar and loop pedal in hand, one geek at a time.

What does dirty punk rock and down-home delta blues have in common? In short, the genres both reflect “struggle music.” That being said, it is no surprise that the three stalwart gentlemen that form the Rum Drum Ramblers were once mohawk sporting, studded jacket donning, snot-nosed punk rockers in much of their high school youth. Trading drums for a “jingle-foot” and power chords for finger picking, the Ramblers have spent the past year bridging the gap between punk and blues. In good holding with the DIY attitude of the punk philosophy, the trio would just as soon perform on a street corner as they would a concert venue. Regardless of where you may find them, the first clue that you’ve stumbled upon a Rum Drum Ramblers performance will be the manic frenzy of the crowd.

BURLESQUE:

Lola van Ella is an international burlesque starlet who will sing, dance and giggle her way into your heart.  She is an often cheeky, but always sexy performer who is showcased all over St. Louis and beyond.  With a sultry voice, devastating shimmy, and flirtatious smile; this adventurous ecdysiast has garnered a lot of attention and the tagline “The Derriere Beyond Compare”…come find out why!

Sammich the Tramp aka Hammy Sammy is a wandering hobo and lovable scamp. When not hopping trains and dancing for her/its dinner, Sammich performs all over the country with all kinds of fancy people. Sammich regularly appears with The Oona Tramps, who have performed at the Burlesque Hall of Fame, and at the New Orleans, Best of Midwest and Toronto Burlesque Festivals. She also makes regular appearances with Michelle L’amour’s Belles and Whistles and in numerous Lola van Ella productions. As a solo performer Hammy Sammy performs frequently in St. Louis, Chicago, Bloomington, Kansas City, Denver, Las Vegas and with the Happy Humpy Traveling Medicine Show.

St. Louis socialites Katrina Dohl (aliases include Katrina the Red; Kate the Great) and Michelle Mynx (aka Michelle Gravity) have been flying high across the nation as Gravity Plays Favorites for over three years. With their unique combination of sexy burlesque and athletic acrobatism (with an occasional rock and roll twist), these girls have, (together with thier trusty pole, Dickie) quickly ascended the ranks of performers to become one of the top billed acts in such events as The New York Burlesque Festival, Cabaret Verdalet in San Fransisco, La Biblioteque in lovely Gotenburg, Sweden, and at Las Vegas’ Burlesque Hall of Fame. The Gravity Girls perform locally at The Pagaent, Off Broadway, The Contemporary Arts Museum, The City Museum, Mad Art Gallery, Novak’s, and occasionally at Rue 13 with The Alley Cat Revue.

Music is a collective language. It can bring a sense of community among strangers, regardless of language, nationality, or beliefs. It can provide the listener an environment for creative thought and unrestrained emotion. It can manifest the beauty of people and cultures who may be thousands of miles apart. The music of Telepath strives to do all of this. Formed in 2006 and hailing from Philadelphia PA via Asheville NC, Telepath is a unique new expression in the current live and electronic music scenes. The 3-piece comprised of keyboards, bass and drums use a wide variety of self-created samples containing Indian and Arabic singers and musicians, Afrobeat-influenced horn lines, dubbed-out effects, and much more to generate the multi-layered sound that is Telepath. Extensively touring in support of their debut album Fire One (2006), Telepath has played to passionate audiences at theaters, clubs, and festivals around the country. Now, with the September 2008 release of their second album ContactTelepath continues the development of a loyal and ever-growing fan base, as well as their commitment to creating a positive and inspiring environment both on record, and in live performance.

Euforquestra is a cutting-edge, worldbeat ensemble from Iowa City, IA, with influence spanning a wide array of traditional music and culture from all over the globe. Educated in Cuba, the band has made a mission statement out of preserving cultural traditions, indiscriminately attempting anything at least once and fusing many worldly styles. The self-proclaimed “Afro-Caribbean-Barnyard-Funk” brings an explosive sound, moving crowds all over the nation, while touching on such genres as Afrobeat, Afro-Cuban, Samba, Soca, Funk, Reggae, Salsa, Calypso, and Bluegrass. As percussionist and lead vocalist, Matt Grundstad, puts it, “Euforquestra just wants to make people dance.” Although the band is most commonly grouped among the jamband community, Euforquestra’s music appeals to anyone and everyone with an “inclusive ‘everyone get in here’ sense of humor” (Jim Musser – renowned Iowa City music critic).
