+ 18andCounting

Jam Band / Bluegrass / Funk

8pm Doors / 9pm Show / 21+ / $2

Self-described as “High-Octane Rocky Mountain DanceGrass”, WhiteWater Ramble uses a simple recipe to craft it’s sound – bluegrass instrumentation, add drums, and a boundary-less approach to grassing-up everything from disco house grooves to roots Americana. Colorado-bred quintet WhiteWater Ramble combines the elements of Mandolin, Fiddle, Acoustic Guitar, Upright Bass, Drums and Vocals to explore the musical boundaries of multiple genres to fuel their own mixture of original music and innovative cover song interpretations. Whether playing an intimate encore, acoustic and unplugged in the crowd, or surfing on top of the upright bass, WhiteWater Ramble delivers a powerful and memorable live performance. Download their debut record free at whitewaterramble.com.

The Stone Sugar Shakedown, a local 4-piece band blends earth-rooted, traditional music and contemporary, spacious sounds. Their multi-dimensional music and live performances captivate the listener and create a funk-filled atmosphere, both sonically and visually. The experience celebrates art and spirit. Its core consists of Ryan Benthall on bass, Nicholas Elwood on guitar and vocals, Tracy Gladden on vocals and percussion, and Ben Walters on drums and percussion. They’re passionate about creation and crafting an energized, rejuvenating atmosphere to share with the crowd. New self-recorded, self-produced recordings are due for release Winter, 2010. Their fan-base and stage production continue to grow.

Thu 10.7 – Henhouse Prowlers + Michael Jonas & Wayward Mountaineers

Henhouse Prowlers

+ Michael Jonas & Wayward Mountaineers

Bluegrass / Acoustic / Indie / Folk

8pm Doors / 9pm Show / 18+ / $10 ($3 minor surcharge if any) / Buy Tickets

The Henhouse Prowlers

Chicago. A city known for its blues and its bluegrass. In the bluegrass history books, a pivotal stop among others, along the road to success for the Monroe Brothers and, in more current times, noteworthy as home base for the long popular Special Consensus. And now the Windy City serves as a critical intersection in the lives of four musicians, two who hail from Illinois and the others from as far and near as North Carolina and …upstate New York.

With a PBS series soundtrack already to its credit and a critically acclaimed sophomore recording, The Henhouse Prowlers have been barnstorming on to the red hot bluegrass scene since 2004. Not just another bluegrass band, the Henhouse Prowlers are adeptly positioning themselves for nothing less than success. Each member does double duty within the group, holding a business as well as musical post, making it a total collaborative effort.

Dedicated equally to tradition and innovation, The Henhouse Prowlers center their sound on that of the early, formative years of bluegrass, while they keep their pulse on today by covering contemporary topics in a largely original repertoire.

The Henhouse Prowlers wear the Bill Monroe mantle with spit and polish. They perform — and conduct media interviews — in suit-and-tie and work in a tightly choreographed, one-mic stage setting, which adds a dynamic dimension to their shows. Combining passion, confidence, and flair with instrumental and vocal prowess, The Prowlers deliver bluegrass with an edge.

Michael Jonas And Wayward Mountaineers

Formerly known as The Michael Jonas Band, Michael Jonas and Wayward Mountaineers is rooted deep in the tradition of bluegrass but is not afraid to explore the influences of Jazz, Rock, and World Music. The WMs have a fresh original approach to new acoustic music.

Wed 10.6 – C.D.C. presents RESO

RESO

+ McGruff + Pah Je + B-Box

dubstep / breaks / d&b / future beats

8pm Doors / 9pm Show / 18+ / $15 ($3 minor surcharge) / Buy Tickets

The Columbian Dubstep Cartel Presents:

~RESO~
(TFA/Household)

Reso is simultaneously moving a whole spectrum of electronic genres forward while further cementing his place as the overlord of hi-tech dubstep. With Reso wobble, hypercrunk, breaks, wonky, hip-hop and D n B all receive the treatment. Reso’s deep musicality, incredible skill, intricate programming and wildly diverse references place him at the peak of a new breed of electronic producers.
The sonic counterpart to roaring robotic futurism, Reso’s hybrid of rising ambience, hyper beats and speaker busting tech-basslines feels more suited to a post apocalyptic Tokyo than the contemporary concrete of most Dubstep. A truly inspiring experience his music’s mech-mania induced synthesesia conjures images of neon-tinged neo-Japanese cityscapes, powerful hulking automatons and violent bassline machismo.

After killer 12inches « If Ya Can’t Beat Em » and « Heavy Arms EP » (both on Civil Music) and a host of remixes from Wiley, the Qemists to Crookers through Drop The Lime, Reso kicked off 2010 with a bang. His 2x12inch Temjin EP opens his new musical worlds to the wider electronic audience and rewards the playstation generation, loyal club kids and seasoned steppers who go wild for Reso’s productions already. Reso’s diverse references will draw fans from all realms of the electronic spectrum. Emotive and unique, Reso’s new rhythmic possibilities and perfectly chaotic programming make this essential for fans of Dubstep through Techno to IDM, from Skream to Thom Yorke to Rustie via Bukem.

As Reso moves towards his debut album for Civil Music due early 2011 he’s dropped his “In Da Mix” CD on Z-Audio, joined the Hospital Records Family to showcase his genre redefining DnB skills with Slap Chop and squeezed in Remixes for Drop the Lime, Foamo, Qemists and dEbruit amongst others.
Currently busy preparing his Live show (in between touring the USA and Europe). His sonic take over is surely underway.

+ DUBS’ SOUNDSYSTEM

psychedelic / savage R&B / hardcore

8pm Doors / 9pm Show / 18+ / $15 ($3 minor surcharge)

*Tickets are available at the door after 8pm night of show.

10.3.10_2720_KHAN_WL1Who is this manic Master of Ceremonies who openly confesses to the two grand black bohemians said to be lunatic Sun Ra and George Clinton, and whose stagings certainly remind us of a young Herman Sonny Blount and his Solar Arkestra? In 1995 Khan leaves the frosty soil of the city of Montreal playing the bass for the International-Underground-Legends THE SPACESHITS. The band is produced by Mike Mariconda with a special guest appearance from the Fabulous Andy G (Devil Dogs). Khan founds the secret lodge of the KUKAMONGAS. During the oncoming years Khan tours across the States. Detroit, New Orleans, New York City, LA, San Francisco, Dallas, Tijuana etc. Khan doesn’t return from the first Spaceshits-Europe-Tour in summer of 1999. In Germany the young 22-year old Canadian founds a Psychedlic-Soul-Big-Band THE SENSATIONAL SHRINES. The first line-up includes Ron Streeter (live-percussionist of Curtis Mayfield, Stevie Wonder, Al Jarreau and other Soul-Legends), as well as a horn section of rowdy teenagers, and a rhythm section which can only be called a german/french version of the Freak Brothers. Khan meets Fredovitch (Bordeaux’s wildest organ player) wearing a silverstudded gogo dress, matching cowboy hat and sporting a full beard. He dubs him into shrinehood only one week before recording their first album in Toe Rag Studio in London. THREE HAIRS & YOU’RE MINE is produced by Liam Watson. THE SHRINES grow into an all-star international movement. Their first concert in London is suspended by the police. The band escapes through the back-door. Numerous gigs will follow all across Europe, among others with the Demolition Dollrods, Mr.Quintron and Ms. Pussycat, an after-party for 50 cent, even a legendary stint at the Roskilde festival. In 2003 Khan encounters the Hazelwood-producers-team Gordon “Two Horses” Friedrich and Wolfgang “Amadeus” Gottlieb, who stage the second longplayer MR. SUPERNATURAL in the beginning of 2004.

Sat 10.2 – STANTON MOORE TRIO plus ANDERS OSBORNE

STANTON MOORE TRIO plus ANDERS OSBORNE

2 Sets of Funk & Soul!

8pm Doors / 9pm Show / 18+ / $15 ($3 minor surcharge) / Buy Tickets

10.2.2010

Born and raised in New Orleans , Stanton Moore is a dedicated drummer and performer especially connected to the city, its culture and collaborative spirit. Driven and inspired by the thriving music scene of his hometown which includes such greats as Professor Longhair, Doctor John and The Meters, Moore ’s name is now mentioned amongst these Big Easy mainstays.

In the early ‘90s, Moore helped found the New Orleans-based essential funk band Galactic. Their first album, 1996’s widely acclaimed Coolin’ Off, led to an intense tour schedule of nearly 200 gigs a year for the next ten years. Building on their fan base by adding an esteemed list of all-star collaborations to the six albums that followed, Galactic continues to amass a worldwide audience via recording and touring globally.

In April 2010, Moore releases Groove Alchemy. The 12-track set is the culmination of Moore’s multimedia project that also includes an instructional book and DVD of the same name. All three facets of the project are designed to explore the roots of funk drumming by examining the work of pioneers like Jabo Starks, Clyde Stubblefield, and Zigaboo Modeliste – each of whom made their mark at different times throughout the 1960s as the engines driving James Brown’s and the Meters’ legendary rhythm sections –
and in turn tracing their influences back to the rhythms coming out of New Orleans in the earlier part of the 20th century.
