Fri 1.28 – Two Fresh + Mux Mool + Body Language

Loyal Family presents…

TWO FRESH (Asheville, NC)

w/ Mux Mool + Body Language

Ghettotech / Glitch-Hop / Live-Electronics

8pm Doors / 9pm Show / 18+ / $10 ($3 minor surcharge)

Two Fresh consists of twin brothers Sherwyn and Kendrick Nicholls and is accompanied live by drummer Colby Buckler. The twins have been making beats and playing music together since their freshman year of high school. In August of 2008, they began playing shows across the south. In early December they added on Colby on drums for the live setting. Together they bust out some of the freshest tracks, wowing people from all over the spectrum. Packing out venues, they keep the whole place moving with a raw, cutting edge sound that is a combination of hip-hop and jazz that takes electronic music to a whole new level. No matter what your into, Two Fresh will bring you music that is guaranteed to keep you moving. Their sound has begun to grasp the attention of people across the globe.

“I know it’s electronic music,” Brian Lindgren says, “but sometimes I feel like an old-timey traveling musician with an M-Audio Trigger Finger instead of a guitar.” As Mux Mool, Lindgren has been criss-crossing the country by himself for years, collecting records, loops, and samples, and rocking parties in towns both large and boondock-small. Lindgren is a self-confessed nerd to the bone, an incurable doodler, a Star Trek: The Next Generation fan; he lives on energy drinks and barely sleeps, spending his days working on music and his nights absorbing Internet memes by the hard-drive load. Mux Mool’s homespun electro hip-hop is the product of an introverted mind, an extroverted imagination, and a bottomless cultural appetite.

“Retro-minded Brooklyn club act Body Language take ‘80s soul and electro and deliver it with a futuristic slant, much like Deee-Lite, Chromeo, or Jamiroquai. Backed by party promoters CassetteNYC and Percussionlab, the band (Grant Wheeler, Matt Young, Ian Chang, and Ms. Angelica Bess) built up a solid fan base playing shows in N.Y.C., before Moodgadget Records released the group’s Speaks EP in 2009.”

Fri 1.21 – Kraddy

Glitch-Hop / Crunk / Dubstep

Kraddy

+ Heezy + Dr. Awkward + Thump

8pm Doors / 9pm Show / 18+ / $10 cover ($3 minor surcharge)

Known as a pioneer of electronic music, Kraddy is one of the most innovative and
remarkable artists of his day.  He stands as a visionary in his field, a fresh voice that spans genres and artistic style.  Hybridizing hip hop, dubstep and dancehall with digital edits and cuts, Kraddy’s music is a voice from the future awakening our ears and minds to what is yet to come.

Originally from NY, Kraddy (born Matthew Kratz) began his musical career in San
Francisco releasing his debut album, Truth Has No Path, in 2003.  With the release of the single “Faux Show” (a remix of The Old Dirty Bastard’s “Shimmy Shimmy Ya”,) Kraddy became an underground favorite in the electronic music world.  After a handful of vinyl breakbeat releases, Kraddy changed the game once again with his sophomore effort, The Illegal Album.  Fueled by fierce beats and searing edits, The Illegal Album was a radical fusion of Kraddy’s unique production chops with classic hip hop and dancehall acapellas.  It was hailed as a breakthrough and soon after led to his collaboration with the Glitch Mob.

Thu 1.20 – Virtual Boy : FREE SHOW!

Loyal Family presents…

Virtual Boy

+ Heyoka (AGAIN!) + Heezy + McGruff

Electronic / Pop / Glitch-Hop

8pm Doors / 9pm Show / 18+ / FREE SHOW! ($3 minor surcharge)

Hotwiring naughty synth lines and dancefloor-crushing beats with elegant harmonic textures and twisted, pop-cultured hooks, Virtual Boy craft a grimy, cinematic sound all their own on the group’s debut EP “How Long Does It Take To Get To Space?,” released July 21, 2009 on 1320 Records. But even before Virtual Boy had an official release, taste-making DJs spanning packed clubs to BBC Radio were spinning their atmospheric bangers, which owe as much to Bach and Mozart as they do to Ratatat, evoking Air as much as Virtual Boy’s heroes-in-glitch Nosaj Thing and The Glitch Mob.

That stylishly oddball set of influences is what happens when two talented young classical musicians discover their shared passion for dusty vintage synthesizers, new electronic-music genres, classic formalwear, and girls that look like they are starring in a ’60s Godard movie. Out of that distinctive crucible, Virtual Boy was born – the duo taking its distinctive moniker from a rare Nintendo game console gathering dust in a Southern California dorm room. Virtual Boy founders Henry Allen and Preston Walker met freshman year at Chapman University’s Conservatory of Music based in California’s famed Orange County.

Mon 1.17 – Heyoka

Dub / Electronica / IDM / Dubstep

HEYOKA

w/ Spankalicious + Alpaca vs. Yvan Carr-Chua

8pm Doors / 9pm Show / 18+ / $10 ($3 minor surcharge) / Buy Tickets

Heyoka a.k.a. Andrei Olenev is another cosmic auditory scientist found in the Bay Area noosphere, who recently delighted us with his auditory manipulations. Muti Music first released Heyoka’s “Space Case EP” in 2008 and included him on their growing roster of talented artists.

Heyoka is fast becoming one of San Francisco’s hottest new producers on the scene and also one of the best performers. His early influences in Downtempo, Dub and IDM combined with more recent midtempo dancefloor genres from the likes of Bassnectar, Glitch Mob and An-ten-nae have helped create a very unique sound that combines relentless basslines, hip hop and dub rhythms with a lot of musicality and melody. Heyoka’s earlier works were identifiable by their crushing basslines and ‘spacey’ blips and glitches, ‘Pineal Dub’ shows progression from Heyoka as a producer with greater use of negative space and ethereal melodies that can only be heard as melancholy or wickedly cheerful. The response to his emergence so far has been overwhelming with Heyoka opening nights for Tipper, Benga & Skream amongst others.

Spankalicious is bounce. Making his mark on the electronic music scene in the Midwest with the high energy that he brings to the stage, creating the vibe needed to get the rage started! Kevin Moore (aka: Spankalicious) is currently based out of St. Louis, Missouri. Coming from an extensive background in rudimental percussion/drumming has allowed Spank to read rhythms inside and out. Shown through scratching, drumming, as well as seamlessly blending and mixing, Spankalicious thrives on taking the crowd on a journey.

Columbia, MO native ALPACA returns home to promote the current robot Apocalypse. Sharing bills with The Glitch Mob, EPROM, DZ, Mochipet, MartyParty, ill-esha, Siren, Samples, Dark Party, Mux Mool, Ana Sia + festival performances at Wakarusa and Underground Sound 6, Alpaca continues to blur the boundaries of the growing glitch-hop & dubstep scenes.

Sat 1.15 – BoomBox

House / Disco / Psychedelic

BoomBox

+ Cor(e)yography + Justin Torres’ Loop Project

8pm Doors / 9pm Show / 18+ / $12 ($3 minor surcharge) / Buy Tickets

BoomBox is Producer/Engineer/DJ/Drummer Russ Randolph and Producer/DJ/Vocalist/Guitarist Zion Rock Godchaux. This pair of dynamic artists uses their rich musical history and their vision of music and popular culture to deliver a style of music distinctly different from anything heard or seen in music today. This signature sound and show brings live music to a new, elevated level.

BoomBox evolved through the common visualization of a pair of forward thinking artists from diverse musical backgrounds. Raised by supportive and musically inclined parents, both Godchaux and Randolph had an obsession with music at very young ages. Godchaux, who grew up with deeply embedded rock and roll roots, began playing drums at the age of two, and played guitar and wrote his own songs as a teen. During the 90s, Godchaux was a well-received touring DJ based out of the San Francisco area. Randolph began as a young drummer, but it’s what was happening behind the scenes that attracted him most. As much producers as they are musicians, it is Randolph’s understanding of soundscape and Godchaux’s knack for songwriting that keeps BoomBox resonating at higher levels.
