Bawn in the Mash + Chicago Farmer
8pm Doors / 8:45pm Show / 18+ / $8 ($5 minor surcharge) / Buy Tickets

Entering their sixth year as a touring band, Bawn in the Mash will now offer Itunes users over 60 published songs to choose from with the release of their forthcoming eponymous album. Since 2004, Bawn in the Mash have performed over 300 shows across the country, ranging from eclectic music festivals to hosting their own annual Cluckin’ and Pluckin’. Listeners are often treated to an opening set of dynamic acoustics, followed by a second set that typically pushes the limits of experimental music- unclassifiable to any specific genre. All members of the band are multi-instrumentalists, utilizing everything from the violin to their own custom made instruments.
Early fans watched the band go from busking Appalachian street corners to headlining the Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion– from performing on the corner of 4th and Broadway to selling out the world famous Station Inn– and from playing local barrooms to performing in the Victorian Ballroom aboard the Delta Queen steamboat, as the band continually progresses and impresses listeners worldwide.
Every folk-singer has to migrate to the city, in a way it seems to be hidden in definition of a folk singer anymore. Cody (aka Chicago Farmer) has come to remind Chicago that it is indeed in Illinois. And to remind the rest of the world that when Louis Armstrong redefined, some say invented the art of Jazz in the 1920′s he brought his Hot Fives to Chicago to do it. When Robert Johnson wanted to put his Mississippi Mud on wax, his hellhound chased him to Chicago to do it. And same like, Cody has come to Chicago to deliver what it needs, when it isn’t even sure itself. He is currently recording a collection of songs from his vast back-catalog and performing across the heartland.
Cody’s voice is powerful and gritty, emotionally piercing while subtly imbuing additional layers of meaning and poignancy in his lyrical delivery. His song-writing is deeply rooted in the American Folk tradition and all of its grit but with a post Dylan sense of wit, perspicacity and that certain savior-faire. He didn’t go to college but he drank all of their beer..

Lane 4 & Loyal Family present… WE THE PEOPLE
+Music+Community Action+Slogan Art+”Real” “Mock” Elections+Protest+A Citywide Social Justice Fair ft Organizations from ALL OVER StL+
featuring: The Hot House Sessions, 18andCounting, Tef Poe, Jonathan Toth, From Hoth, Tucker Booth, John Maxfield Band, and StL Improv Anywhere
House / Soul / Hip-Hop
8pm Doors / 9pm Show / 21+ / $5 cover

In the wake of one of the most disastrous economic crises in the history of modern capitalism, elections hold greater and lesser significance. As the only way for the average citizen to participate in the political process, elections and voting have an incomparable role in American socio-politcal engagement. Organizers and leaders use elections to mobilize their communities. Yet, as the political processes that govern our lives …slip further and further into the hands of powerful, private interests, elections are reduced to placebo.
We The People is a play on both extremes. Despite the lack of control that everyday people have about the course of their society, each election cycle brings with it the opportunity to enact or halt important local issues. On a small scale, our elected officials can be held accountable to their constituencies, and their policies have direct, measurable effects on our neighborhoods. But elections are never, and have never been, enough. They have become an important but insufficient form civic responsibility.
An empowered, educated and united community acts in its own best interest. We The People will be as much a mobilization as a statement of protest against the system as a whole.
The night will feature music from StL’s best and beyond; slogan art inspired by elections, community action, and generally anything we believe in; a ballot with social action items that we WILL implement; a Social Justice Fair with information and representation from many StL orgs; voter education + registration; and a few Lane4 surprises.

Loyal Family & Nasty Rumor present…
SPL + Ben Samples + Doombox + HoodNasty
8pm Doors / 9pm Show / 18+ / $10 ($5 minor surcharge) / Buy Tickets

SPL aka Sam Pool has spent the last decade taking risks and breaking the mold in electronic music. Received internationally, SPL feeds the ears and souls of bassheads worldwide. From thousands of screaming fans in St. Petersburg and Kiev arenas, to massive club nights in Holland and New Zealand, to stateside venues such as the legendary Fox Theater in Boulder, Colorado, SPL delivers with passion and musical prowess that goes beyond the current state of dance music. Because of his international experiences and influences, SPL has launched into new territories time and time again.
SPL’s most recent approach forays into the depths of dub-hop infused hyper-bass music. Combining elements from the pulse of an all-night party and a healthy dose of Trap-Star Crunk, a unique and highly energetic experience emerges every time SPL gets on the decks. For those who cannot wait for a show, the same sound and intensity can be found in his recent track “Back at It” or his massive remix of Bassnectar’s “Bass Head”. Either way, SPL is bound to take your head on an intergalactic-bass journey, and leave you begging for more!
Ben Samples is one half of the live remix project Fresh2Death that is based out of Denver, CO. His style is crunk glitch-hop, complete with bass-heavy remixes of your favorite club anthems and hip hop. His professional DJ career started in 2006 when he picked up a weekly variety radio show for CU Boulder’s KVCU. His show covered many genres, with a focus on dance music and hip hop. Now, Samples blends both hip hop and dance music into a hybrid club hip hop sound that is redefining the bassline genre. Samples is a member of the Denver Bass Squad, which is the essential crew that pushes the heavy bass scene in the Colorado area.

Dirtfoot + ClusterPluck
8pm Doors / 9pm Show / 21+ / $10 cover

Whether performing on big stages at festivals, or playing intimate setting in pubs and the finer taverns all over the mid west & south, Dirtfoot puts on an uproarious show. The crowds come to take part in the fun and chaos, hollering to all the calls and responses, shaking their beancans, and getting down with the infectious grooves. There is only one Gypsy Punk Country Grumble Boogie band in the land… Dirtfoot.
Led by the organic writings of Matt Hazelton with each player adding his own flavor and feeling to the songs and sound of the group, Dirtfoot is a blend of eclectic styles as well as diverse personalities. All of their instruments are acoustic but their energy and ingenuity will make you swear they are plugged in. Featuring instruments ranging from an acoustic guitar, banjo, upright bass, pots n’ pans, drums, bells, saxophone, xylophone and more, this band has a truly engaging sound, a real dose of Gypsy, Punk, Country, Grumble Boogie! It is like a good gumbo – you have some growling vocals, upright bass and percussion that makes a good, dark, dirty Louisiana roux, mixed heartily with some meaty rhythms, combined liberally with fresh offerings from the guitar and banjo that are like okra and tomatoes picked from your backyard garden, topped with the hot n’ sexy spice of the saxophone and jazz style drums, and finally a little something magical and indescribable, and you have Dirtfoot – a delicious, spicy, dirty band that will make you stomp your feet, shake your ass and yell like a lunatic on a full moon night.

Loyal Family presents…
Grammy Award-winning singer Mykal Rose
+ Fyah Enagy + Josh Heinrichs + Ras Tra
Roots / Reggae / Dub / Rock
8pm Doors / 9pm Show / 18+ / $25adv-$30dos

Michael Rose (aka Mykal Rose) is a Grammy award winning reggae singer from Jamaica. Possessing a wide-ranged voice, Rose would regularly meet in Kingston with singers, musicians, writers, and producers such as Dennis Brown, Big Youth, The Wailers, Gregory Isaacs, Sly and Robbie, and others.
Born in the Western Kingston ghetto of Waterhouse, Jamaica on July 11, 1957 Michael Rose was introduced to music by his brothers, who used to sing around the house. Blessed with a powerful voice he joined a band, doing local talent shows as well as entertaining tourists in the north coast hotels of Jamaica. Returning to Kingston in 1975, Niney the Observer first spotted the potential of Michael Rose and produced first recordings like “Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner” and “Clap The Barber” to name a few.
The following year he replaced Don Carlos as the lead singer of a three-piece vocal group called Black Uhuru. Their first full-length recording “Love Crisis”, produced by Prince Jammy in 1977, was later remixed and re-released as “Black Sounds of Freedom”. Michael Rose had a profound effect on the sound of the group. With his distinctive voice and his powerful, self-penned reality themes, Black Uhuru were to eventually become the Reggae supergroup of the 80’s after joining forces with Sly & Robbie and releasing hit-singles like “Shine Eye Gal”, “General Penitentiary” or “Plastic Smile” on the Taxi Label. Signed to Island Records in 1980, they recorded highly acclaimed albums like “Sinsemillia”, “Red”, “Chill Out” and the grammy-winning “Anthem” in 1984.
In 1985 Michael Rose left Black Uhuru to pursue a solo career. After recording singles like “Bogus Badge” and “Demonstration” on his own Grammy Rose label he took a break from the music business, preferring instead to farm coffee on land he owned in Jamaica.
Opening sets by: Fyah Enagy, Josh Heinrichs, and Ras Tra.
