McTuff (Seattle) + Mikey Wehling
“Post Jazz Fest Decompression Tour”
8pm Doors / 9pm Show / 21+ / $5
Hammond organist, Joe Doria brings together some of the areas finest with “McTuff”!
Joe Doria, Andy Coe, and D’Vonne Lewis, a few of the best from Seattle’s incredible music scene, come together to create a powerful and jaw-dropping take on a soul jazz trio like you’ve never heard.
What began as an ode to some of the organ greats in soul jazz, such as delivering their own take on the works of Jimmy Smith and Captain Jack McDuff, soon turned into something more. A movement towards being a band that can appeal to almost any audience, room, and vibe. Melody, dynamics, and groove…from the soft and surreal to deep funk. From swinging soul…all the way to the thumping metal grind…no musical stone gets unturned. McTUFF is about letting it all go and having fun, a moment of time to remember the groove laid down by the soul masters as well as introduce original works of their own.
With a high level of musicianship, strong songwriting, fearless improvisation, and a depth of musical knowledge that spans almost every style and genre of music, McTuff is a movin’ and groovin’ adventure that you will not soon forget.
Like all great combos, McTuff loves to stir the pot even more with the addition of some of the best guest artists around. They have recorded and toured extensively with legendary saxophonics madman Skerik, both solo and with his Syncopated Taint Septet, as well as welcomed some of the hottest horns in the land, such as none other than Karl Denson, Devin Phillips, Jessica Lurie (with and without) the Tiptons, Craig Flory, Trombonist John Terpin, MC sensation “Radio”, percussion legend Mike Clark of the Headhunters, Drummer Stanton Moore, and many more.
Joe Doria captains the Hammond Organ, the impeccable Andy Coe on guitar, the incredible Dvonne Lewis on drums, and when scheduling permits, “Skerik” on tenor sax.
